If you aren't strong in your identity you a more than likely to follow in the footsteps of those that seem to have it all together. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having someone that you look to (rolemodel) for the things that you desire to equip for and within yourself. It only becomes a problem when you take on the identity of someone else while losing sight of who you truly are. We must learn to be inspired without being changed. To be inspired without being changed means to admire what you see without changing aspects of yourself to look like who you are admiring.
"Be inspired without being changed."
I know from experience what it's like to take on the identity of someone that you admire. I did it all throughout my childhood because I always felt like something was wrong with me. I felt like because I wasn't accepted, and because I was overlooked I had to change things about myself to fit in. I would look at how the other girls carried themselves or how they would act, and I would imitate it not realizing that I wasn't being true to who I was. I was being inspired, but I was also being changed. I didn't realize that being different from everyone else was something special. I didn't realize that being different from everyone else was a beautiful thing. It took me finding my identity in Christ to realize that nothing was wrong with me, and how God made me was more than enough. It was actually perfect, because there was no one else in this world like me. I think it's a beautiful thing to be handmade by God. I think it's extra beautiful to know that there is only one version of you in this world, and no one can imitate or copy you and there be another you. We are all unique and different in our own way, and that is what makes us who we are. It is hard to accept when you are clueless as to who you are or whose you are, but once you figure that out accepting and being who you are is a phenomenal thing.
